Stellantis announced a more than $41 million investment in a new Mopar Parts Distribution Center in Forsyth, Georgia. Located about 60 miles south of Atlanta, the nearly 422,000-square-foot distribution center will strengthen Stellantis’ U.S. parts distribution network. It will support faster, more efficient service for dealers and customers of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Alfa Romeo and FIAT brands throughout the Southeastern United States, the company said. “This facility represents a critical investment in Mopar’s long-term growth strategy and our ability to support the dedicated workforce that drives our success,” said Darren Bradshaw, senior vice president of Mopar North America. “It provides our UAW-represented employees with the tools, technology and environment they need to deliver exceptional service to our dealers and customers while supporting our commitment to efficiency and sustainability.” Automation and Efficiency Upgrades The facility will include a 16,000-square-foot AutoStore automated storage and retrieval system. The AutoStore system uses 66 robots designed to retrieve parts from a high-density grid of bins. The robots transport them to processing stations where PDC employees prepare final shipments. Stellantis said the next-generation automation improves order processing speed, accuracy and inventory control. It also reduces the physical footprint required for storage. Creating Jobs and Expanding the Network The Georgia PDC will support about 90 UAW-represented jobs. Stellantis said the investment builds on its broader transformation of the parts distribution network. In July, the company announced a $388 million investment to create a Metro Detroit Megahub, its largest PDC project to date. Earlier this year, Stellantis also celebrated the opening of a $64 million PDC in East Fishkill, New York. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) will retire five ASE certification tests on Dec. 31. The tests include: Test E1: Truck Equipment Installation and Repair Test E2: Electrical/Electronic Systems Installation and Repair Test E3: Auxiliary Power Systems Installation and Repair Test P4: General Motors Parts Consultant Test X1: Undercar Specialist Exhaust Systems ASE will retire both certifications and recertifications for these tests, which will not be available beyond the deadline. It will notify impacted users and systems to ensure a smooth transition. ASE explained that the reason for retiring these tests is to meet industry evolution needs. The organization said this move allows it to allocate more resources to areas of growing demand and helps modernize offerings as technology advances. ASE Urges Technicians to Act Before Dec. 31 “Those individuals who want to be certified or recertified in these test areas should act now and definitely no later than Dec. 31,” said Matt Shepanek, vice president of credential testing programs for ASE. “ASE is constantly being asked by industry partners to create new credential tests. By retiring some of the lower volume tests, we will be able to free up resources to work on some of these new requests.” ASE Certification Tests Will Evolve with Industry Demand “Along with transportation industry leaders, we continuously evaluate the need for new and existing certifications to best serve consumers and industry,” said Dave Johnson, ASE president and CEO. “As part of that ongoing review, we are also in the process of updating some automotive series tests and we will be adding new certifications focused on today’s advanced vehicle safety and security systems.” The post ASE to Retire Five Certification Tests: Key Changes and Deadlines appeared first on Counterman Magazine. As the popularity of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in our markets increases, some parts professionals have expressed worry about the potential lack of future business from these platforms. Many of these fears come from the lack of moving parts in the drivetrain, and the individual piece-count is indeed fewer than the vehicles we have provided for in the past. Despite this, EVs still offer several parts and service opportunities, and even a couple of new categories for us all to get acquainted with. Obviously, the absence of an internal combustion engine eliminates the need for oil changes. Considering that the LOF package is traditionally a loss-leader for both service centers and parts retailers, this might initially feel like a relief. However, the maintenance schedule for most ICE vehicles assures that service providers get to see a vehicle at least twice annually, giving them an opportunity to identify other service opportunities… and sell more parts! Many BEV drivetrains also eliminate conventional transmissions, along with their familiar fluid and filter services. EVs do have transmissions, although, currently, most platforms utilize a single-speed gearbox. The fluids for these transmissions are different from the wide range of fluids we currently stock to meet multiple OEM specifications, with additional SKUs to keep track of. EV transmission fluids fall into two broad categories: “wet” and “dry.” A “dry” transmission sounds like a catastrophe waiting to happen, but it actually refers to its separation from the drive motor, rather than its liquid state. A “wet” transmission fluid is intended for use in EVs whose motor and transmission operate in a shared fluid environment. These fluids are, at a minimum, “long-life” fluids (50k-100k miles), although some EV transmissions are “sealed for life,” and therefore have no maintenance interval. While drivetrain and emissions categories may face a limited future, steering, suspension and tire categories are positioned strongly to help support these increasingly heavy vehicles. The ultra-quiet nature of BEV operation will have a direct influence on noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) concerns. Rattles and clunks from highly-stressed components like sway bar links and control arm bushings will become noticeable much sooner, and likely replaced rather than ignored. Ride control components like struts and chassis parts will continue to wear, possibly at a slightly more accelerated pace. Electric power steering has widely replaced hydraulic systems in many platforms for reasons of fuel economy, and is a necessity for vehicles without an engine-driven accessory drive. Steering and suspension failures will continue to affect alignment regardless of the vehicle’s propulsion system. EV tires are designed to decrease rolling resistance, adding to the overall efficiency of their drive systems. Bearing the additional weight of the EV battery packs and subject to the instant high torque generated by electric motors, tires designed for EV platforms are also often sturdier-built and generally more expensive than other options. TPMS functionality and proper inflation are critical to achieving the maximum benefits of these designs. EV tires also tend to have less initial tread depth than typical all-season tires. EV owners are discovering that these vehicles require replacement 15-20% sooner than conventional tires, increasing the frequency of services requiring technicians to remove the wheels, leading to possible associated sales. The takeaway for the future of EV parts and service opportunities is that our role as parts professionals isn’t going away, it’s just changing. Just as our suppliers have adapted to market changes by embracing trends in diesel and hybrid ownership, or transitions from R-12 to R-134a and now R-1234yf, the current shift toward BEV technologies simply presents a series of new opportunities for the parts professional to provide expert assistance in a changing landscape. In a July 8-9 event in Michigan, Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper named their annual Technician of the Year. This year’s winner is Kevin Kiggins of Pullen’s Garage in Hamilton Township, New Jersey (pictured above). Technicians from across the United States—nominated by distributors in the Auto Value or Bumper to Bumper Certified Service Center networks—gathered for a rigorous competition designed to test both knowledge and hands-on expertise. Finalists faced a customized ASE exam and a series of timed, hands-on challenges facilitated by professional trainers from Garage Gurus. Combined scores from the various testing determined the overall 2025 Technician of the Year Champion. The event, which took place over several days in various locations in Michigan, also included tours of the Ford Rouge Factory and the Henry Ford Museum, high-speed driving at the M1 Concourse, and an awards dinner where champions were named. Garage Gurus and DRiV are among the sponsors of the program, providing instruction, facilities and sponsorship. For Kiggins, the honor came as something of a surprise. “I’m blown away, actually,” he said. “I did not expect to come in here and win. I’m just really humbled. I had so much fun but to win takes it to a whole new level. It’s been an awesome experience.” The Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper Technician of the Year program has been held annually since 2018. “Our goal is to hype the technician trade and make sure we have well-trained technicians,” JC Washbish, president and CEO of the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance, said at the event. “A well-trained technician does a good job. You avoid comebacks other issues. So we want to train our guys and our gals to make sure that they’re best that we have in the bays and we also want to highlight and reward them for their efforts.” Canadian and Mexican Champions The event also had segments for Canadian and Mexican Technician of the Year champions. This year’s Auto Value Canadian Champion is Mitch Rauhala, of RNG Auto Care & Repair Inc., Mountain View County, Alberta. Juan Luis Montes de Oca Urbina, of Servicio Montes de Oca, in Michoacán de Ocampo, México was named the 2025 Latin American Champion. TERREPOWER is expanding its recovery of brake caliper pistons. These components that are traditionally replaced in the remanufacturing process are now restored using enhanced recovery techniques, advanced testing protocols and engineering expertise, TERREPOWER said. The pistons meet the same high standards expected of every TERREPOWER product. In the next few months, 70-80% of aluminum handbrake calipers in the range will feature recovered pistons. This effort saves up to 88 tons of iron, underscoring the large-scale impact of circular manufacturing, the company said. Building a Broader Program “We’re continuously expanding the use of refurbished pistons, starting with aluminum handbrake calipers. As we move forward, we plan to include other types—like cast-iron handbrake calipers—into the program,” says Bertel Ravn, technical director at TERREPOWER. The program is growing step by step, targeting a broader range of caliper types and materials. Each phase balances sustainability goals with performance standards, ensuring both advance together, the company said. Innovation That Boosts Sustainability At TERREPOWER, sustainability is more than a commitment—it is the foundation of operations, the company said. For over 40 years, it has remanufactured brake calipers in Europe under the respected BUDWEG name. The goal has always been extending product life, reducing waste and delivering reliable aftermarket solutions. The brake caliper piston recovery initiative builds on this foundation, pushing sustainability even further. Why Brake Caliper Pistons Matter The brake caliper piston may be small, but its environmental impact is large, TERREPOWER said. Every piston recovered saves about 250 grams of raw material. That means less mining, casting, machining and logistics—all significant emissions reductions when measured at scale. The company said quality remains central. Customers expect reliable performance, safety and proper fit. Sustainability enhances those values, rather than contradicting them. Precision and Responsibility in Manufacturing Each remanufactured piston undergoes cleaning, assessment, restoration and strict testing. In-house engineering teams design protocols executed by trusted external partners. By applying the same precision that defines decades of caliper remanufacturing, TERREPOWER said it ensures recovered pistons meet industry standards consistently. A Small Component with a Big Impact At TERREPOWER, sustainability defines the path forward, the company said. Recovering brake caliper pistons represents a natural extension of its values: reducing waste, rethinking resources and delivering long-term value for customers and the environment.
