  4. Grote Industries announced its new line of warning lights, Grote WorkShield. The company said the new lamps are powered by HINVII technology and use minimally visible, low-wavelength light to illuminate high visibility material, significantly raising its conspicuousness without distracting personnel or disturbing traffic. Grote said its WorkShield lights are versatile enough for any application and can be strategically mounted on a wide variety of equipment like refuse trucks, utility trucks, tow trucks, and emergency response vehicles. This allows them to illuminate the high-visibility clothing and material on a worksite without directing visible light into traffic or other surroundings. “Our team is excited to bring this innovative product to market,” said Matt Forner, Grote’s Director of Aftermarket Sales. “The HINVII technology built into our quality lamps brings a new layer of safety to work sites, further building on our commitment to make the world a safer place.” Grote said the WorkShield product line currently features two flat-mount options. The first uses six LED diodes producing low-wavelength HINVII light, while the second supplements the base model with four amber light diodes for added versatility. Both versions mount easily to nearly any solid, flat surface and are available through Grote distributors now. PBJS delivered a compelling presentation on Data in the Aftermarket. They skillfully guided us through the complexities of ACES & PIES, Pitfalls of PIES, Business Intelligence, and the Single Source of Truth. Larsen then took center stage with an interactive and highly entertaining session on Public Speaking. Several classmates practiced their newfound skills where Logan Stoeffler gave an impromptu explanation of how having a tail could be a superpower? After a refreshing lunch, networking guru Michael Rukov, MAAP, MBA shared his expertise in the art of networking. We honed our skills with practical and engaging networking exercises, learning how to build meaningful connections. Cheryl Scaglione then inspired us with her session on Supercharged Team Performance. We explored how to foster connections in a multi-generational workforce, lead effectively through communication and master difficult conversations. We ended the day with the news we were all eagerly awaiting—learning who our teammates for the group project are! Our team project will tackle an industry-relevant topic that holds personal significance for each of us and will be presented in the second session of #UofALeadership 2.0. 12. The University of the Aftermarket, through Northwood University, is holding Session I of its Leadership 2.0 course. The first five-day session continues through August 15. Northwood calls the class in tactical leadership for the aftermarket “a tremendous learning experience, with excellent presenters and supporters.” Leadership 2.0 includes a blend of industry research and market analysis, discussion and debate on the challenges confronting the light vehicle and heavy-duty aftermarket. Also discussed are competitive strategies, interpersonal communication skills, contract negotiations, conflict resolution, organizational culture, cyber-security best practices, insight into supply chain solutions, and other industry topics and trends. Jennifer Cothran, the director of content at The Pronto Network, provided her account of the first day of the session: “I am beyond excited to see what this week has in store for us. We kicked off today’s event with meeting our colleagues and opened with an exciting and inspiring conversation with two of Northwood’s best – Dr. Thomas Litzinger who encouraged us to be open this week, and from James O’Dell and what we could look forward on having an engaged class – on our own or with his help. They saved the best for last as we heard from Lisa Foshee from the Auto Care Association. Her unique take on leadership and relating them to the game of basketball – Show up and BE present, DO bold things, and DO what you say you’re going to DO – were some of the takeaways. I can’t say I’ve talked about basketball that much before and based on her stories I’m glad I’m not a fan of her team’s rival! Hearing from other colleagues also sharing their perspectives from making all interactions personal, to a good/bad “Dad” joke, a coloring book to a just simple “hi, how are you?” can be bold moves to show presence and create those important relations and moments. Not all of us can show up for their family to build a kitchen before we left for Leadership 2.0 as one of our attendees did, but taking time away from family and work to attend this “life changing” event is definitely a bold adventure for all of us. I’m looking forward to learning other unique experiences from the lineup of amazing speakers and from my fellow colleagues in attendance. Thank you to AWDA for this amazing opportunity as a scholarship recipient and to The Pronto Network and the team left at home to take care of business. And, lastly, to my family who I’ve left at home – Thank you for taking on additional responsibilities for me to take advantage of this opportunity as learning never stops! 14. Standard Motor Products, Inc. (SMP) announced an expansion of its industry-leading Electronic Throttle Body (ETB) program. The program includes nearly 250 part numbers with coverage for import and domestic vehicles. All Standard ETBs include the required gaskets for installation, and applications with high OE failure rates feature multiple design improvements. 18. Although hybrids have been around for more than 20 years, many shops are not familiar with the risks of high-voltage vehicles or are not comfortable working on or around them. To address this concern, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) said it is offering a testing and certification program for electrified propulsion vehicle (xEV) high-voltage safety, including light-duty and medium-/heavy-duty hybrid and electric vehicles. This industry-developed program provides two options to certify shop personnel based on their involvement with xEVs. Industry standards accompany both certifications and are intended to be used in conjunction with high-voltage vehicle safety training. Training managers have found that technicians who have attained xEV certification have increased confidence and lower anxiety while working on hybrid and electric vehicles. The test can be completed online, ASE said. Once the test is passed, the test-taker receives an electronic credential and a certificate that can be downloaded and printed for display. The xEV Electrical Safety Awareness Certification (Level One) certification is designed for anyone who may encounter xEV in the workplace, including individuals who perform tasks near electric-powered vehicles, such as sales, service, repair and support, ASE said. Level One individuals require high-voltage electrical safety awareness to identify the hazards and reduce the associated risks when working on or near xEVs or near high-voltage components of electrified propulsion vehicles. Skills performed by Level One individuals may include: operating (driving) a hybrid or electric propulsion vehicle; performing maintenance and repairs not related to high-voltage systems or their components; handling non-high-voltage components of electrified propulsion vehicles and working near electric-powered vehicles or high-voltage components of electrified propulsion vehicles. The xEV Technician Electrical Safety Certification (Level Two) certification is for those service professionals, technicians or specialists who have received high-voltage electrical training; have demonstrated skills and knowledge related to the construction, operation and repair of electrically powered high-voltage vehicles; maintain an electrically safe working area and use required personal protective equipment. They have also received safety training to identify the hazards and reduce the associated risk. Skills performed by Level Two repair professionals may include: evaluating and classifying the condition of the high-voltage battery and high-voltage electrical system; isolating the voltage from the high-voltage systems and checking the isolation from the supply; securing the high-voltage system against being activated; re-starting the high voltage system; performing general work on de-energized high-voltage systems and components and assessing the risk of high-voltage vehicles that were involved in an accident. “Today, shops must consider the exposure and liability related to servicing hybrid and electric vehicles,” Dave Johnson, ASE president and CEO, said. “The ASE xEV certifications should be a critical component of a shop’s high voltage safety training. The standards were developed to keep shop personnel safe and earning the credentials is a great way for shops to showcase the ability of their knowledgeable staff to work on high voltage vehicles.” The post ASE to Provide Program for xEV High-Voltage Safety appeared first on Counterman Magazine. 19. Litens Aftermarket N.A has introduced a new line of hybrid tensioners, the Alpha Hybrid Tensioner and Hybrid V-Tensioner, which are now available to customers as Litens new hybrid tensioner kits. Specifically designed for mild hybrid applications, each kit will include the new tensioner along with its corresponding belt. Currently, Litens’ new hybrid tensioners are only available as hybrid kits, due to the pairing of the belt with the tensioner. These kits are designed for mild hybrid applications, often referred to as “P0” hybrids. In these systems, the alternator also acts as a generator, connecting the electric motor and internal combustion engine with a specially sized and designed belt in the front-end accessory drive, which ensures the correct tensioner geometry for optimal performance the company said. This setup allows the front-end accessory drive to perform various functions such as starting the vehicle, adding power and smoothing torque. “Litens is dedicated to expanding its product line to support the latest vehicle engine technologies – especially the hybrid market – which is seeing more-and-more vehicles reach the point of needing maintenance,” said Ana Marie Lopez, Product Application Manager at Litens Aftermarket N.A. “As this trend continues, Litens will continue to expand our coverage to meet the increasing demand.” A properly matched tensioner and belt, along with a well-maintained belt drive system, can meet the unique demands of a hybrid vehicle’s accessory drive, ensuring efficient power distribution and optimal vehicle performance the company said.
