Advance Auto Parts is celebrating 90 years of helping motorists advance on the road by inviting consumers to share their most memorable moments behind the wheel.
In celebration of its “Advanceiversary,” the brand is curating consumers’ most memorable moments on the road for the chance to win a year’s worth of free gasoline and possibly have their road trip recreated. Additionally, Advance is offering quadruple gas rewards now through July 20.
Through July 31, Advance’s “Drive of Your Life” campaign invites motorists to share their most memorable drives – from cross-country vacations with family or friends … to riding in the homecoming court … to traveling to your team’s bitter rival (and winning!) … to pulling in the driveway of your first home for the first time … to just putting the top down and feeling the breeze when you needed it most.
To submit the Drive of Your Life, motorists should visit

From those who post, Advance will select and announce each day beginning July 14 one consumer who will receive free Shell gasoline for a year. After the contest ends, Advance will hit the road to recreate select motorists’ drives of their lives.
“When we reflect on 90 years of commitment to customer care and confidence, we think about our journey behind the many miles we’ve helped motorists advance – both on the road and in their lives,” said Jason McDonell, Advance’s executive vice president of merchandising, marketing and e-commerce. “But even more so, we think about the inspiring, personal stories of those drives. We all have that one drive we’ll never forget – the ‘Drive of Your Life.’ To celebrate our last 90 years and inspire our next 90, we want to hear yours.”
Advance founder Arthur Taubman was a pioneer in curbside service, beginning the practice by installing tires upon purchase outside the store he worked. This is the root of inspiration for many of the services Advance offers today, including free battery and wiper-blade checks and installation, along with a leading parts selection that caters to motorists’ many needs, the company noted.
With the price of gasoline hovering around a record national average and the average vehicle age rising, Advance’s celebration comes at a time when motorists face challenges to create new memories on the road after two summers of uncertainty.
To further help motorists save this summer, all existing and new Advance Speed Perks Gas Rewards members will earn 20 cents off each gallon of gas for a single fill-up at participating Shell stations for every $50 spent at Advance stores across the country between July 13 and 20.

During AutoZone’s fiscal second-quarter 2022 conference call in March, company executives asserted that its pandemic-driven sales momentum could be sustained, even after consumers blow through their stimulus payments.
AutoZone’s fiscal third-quarter results did nothing to convince them otherwise.
“We believed our competitive positioning was materially improved, as indicated by our significant retail share gains and rapidly accelerated commercial sales growth,” AutoZone CEO Bill Rhodes reflected during the company’s third-quarter conference call on May 24. “We believed customer behavior may have permanently changed. We continue to believe all of this today.”
AutoZone reported fiscal third-quarter net sales of $3.9 billion, a 5.9% year-over-year increase. The company’s fiscal third quarter ended on May 7.
Domestic same-store sales, or sales for stores open at least one year, increased 2.6% for the quarter. AutoZone delivered the 2.6% increase against some extremely tough comparisons: In the fiscal third quarter of 2021, same-store sales jumped nearly 29%.
If AutoZone indeed is able to sustain its momentum from 2020 and 2021, “it’ll be the fourth time in the last 30 years that the economy and society have been through significant shocks leading to material acceleration in our growth in sales and profits, without a corresponding decline back to pre-recessionary or pre-pandemic levels,” Rhodes said.
DIFM sales, which suffered in the first few months of the pandemic in 2020, continued to rebound. AutoZone’s commercial sales rocketed 26% higher to $1.04 billion, a third-quarter record for the company.
Weekly commercial sales per store also set a quarterly record, at $16,600, up from $13,500 in fiscal Q3 2021. The company averaged approximately $87 million in total weekly commercial sales.
During the quarter, AutoZone launched 43 net new commercial programs, finishing with 5,275 total programs.
“As I’ve said since the outset of the year, commercial growth will lead the way in FY 22, and our results in the third quarter and year to date reflect this dynamic,” CFO Jamere Jackson said during the conference call.
Rhodes attributed the DIFM growth to a number of companywide initiatives, including expanded hub and megahub coverage, “the strength of the Duralast brand,” technology investments, a more effective salesforce and improved delivery times.
Domestic DIY sales slipped 4.5% during the quarter – another case of tough comps. Rhodes noted that U.S. consumers received stimulus payments in the third quarter of 2021, which led to record DIY-sales growth.
“We’re very proud of our DIY results,” Rhodes added. “Considering we had such a tough comparison to last year, from the data we have available to us, we continued not only retain the enormous share gains in dollars and units built during the initial stages of the pandemic, but [also] modestly build on those gains.
“Our performance, considering the amount of time from the last stimulus and the ending of the enhanced unemployment benefits, has substantially exceeded our expectations and gives us continued conviction about the sustainability of the massive elevated sales levels we have experienced since the beginning of the pandemic.”

Continental received the award for Best New Technology Product during AAPEX 2021 for its new Autodiagnos Drive remote vehicle-data solution.
The Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) presented the award during a special ceremony at the start of the show. Autodiagnos Drive is designed to deliver advanced diagnostic information to service providers, fleet managers and repair facilities so they can maximize theirdata-driven services. Continental Autodiagnos Drive was part of the AAPEX 2021 New Product Showcase, which debuted the industry’s newest products and allowed the products to be judged electronically by pre-registered buyers who viewed the products in the AAPEX Product Plus magazine. Entries with the most votes were named Best New Product in each of eight categories. In addition to New Technology, the other categories included: Tools & Equipment; Safety; Hard Parts; Chemicals, Lubricants & Filters; Automotive Lighting; and Appearance Chemicals & Car Care.
The award was accepted by Howard Laster, executive director and general manager, Continental Automotive Systems, and Christopher Bahlman, head of Diagnostics and Services, Continental Commercial Vehicles and Services.
“We are extremely delighted to be the recipient of this prestigious award,” Bahlman said. “We are proud of our entire team’s efforts to make Autodiagnos Drive a reality and help our customers increase productivity, reduce downtime, enhance customer service, while gaining better insights into the condition of the vehicles they service or manage. Every member of the Diagnostics and Services team is excited about the recognition they have received for their hard work and dedication.”
In addition to the new Autodiagnos Drive, Continental’s Diagnostics and Services group also features two major diagnostic tool programs: Continental Autodiagnos PRO automotive diagnostic system; and Continental Autodiagnos TPMS tools. Both programs are designed to meet the needs of aftermarket service professionals by streamlining vehicle data that technicians can use to analyze, diagnose and repair vehicles faster and better, according to the company.
