  4. So it seems that Amazon has switched most of their prime member orders to the USPS, probably to save costs. The issue is that the US Post Office does not make deliveries if you are on a private road, unless you have a mailman going outside the policy. I even spoke to the post master of the local office and he's getting complaints from residents who are not getting their packages and have to go pick up at the post office! The mailman is even dropping off a slip that says "Sorry we missed you" or "Delivery attempted" when in fact the package never leaves the post office and they just use that form. It's a joke and my taxes at work, can;t get any more packages from USPS and that includes the majority of them from Amazon. With Amazon's main carrot being delivery and Prime within two days, that's going away for me and for others on private roads unless they switch back to UPS. There is no point if I have to go to the post office to pick it up, no convenience there. Amazon should have negotiated better with the USPS.
  5. Icahn Enterprises Acquires American Driveline Systems, Franchisor Of AAMCO And Cottman Service Centers Icahn Enterprises L.P. (IEP) announced that it has acquired American Driveline Systems (ADS) from Transom Capital Group through a wholly-owned subsidiary. ADS is the franchisor of AAMCO and Cottman Transmission & Total Auto Care service centers, with approximately 680 locations in the U.S. and Canada. With the addition of ADS, Icahn Automotive now operates approximately 1,900 owned and franchised service locations in 49 states plus Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia and several other international locations. “The acquisition of American Driveline Systems is the next step in building out our national automotive service network,” said Carl Icahn, chairman of IEP. “I believe that the automotive aftermarket service industry is undergoing secular change driven by increased vehicle complexity, advances in technology, as well as the growth of automotive fleets, including ride-sharing and car-sharing networks. These changes will continue to offer, in my opinion, extremely attractive and unique investment opportunities. With our presence throughout the automotive aftermarket value chain, Icahn Enterprises is positioned to capitalize on these trends.” “Icahn Automotive Group continues to pursue an aggressive strategy of strengthening our full-service automotive repair capabilities, with the ability to leverage a broad national footprint and what we believe will be the most efficient operating model in the industry,” said Daniel Ninivaggi, CEO of Icahn Automotive Group LLC. “We are excited to work with the ADS management team as well as the AAMCO and Cottman franchisees to capitalize on the many growth opportunities we see ahead.” http://www.aftermarketnews.com/icahn-enterprises-acquires-american-driveline-systems-franchisor-aamco-cottman-service-centers/
  6. NY POST: http://nypost.com/2017/10/03/icahn-pushes-2b-into-auto-parts-business/ When it comes to exerting power in the auto parts business, Carl Icahn is certainly in the driver’s seat. The investor, after this week buying the 680-location Aamco auto service center chain, has spent more than $2 billion in equity cobbling together a vertically integrated powerhouse with an eye on possibly taking it public, The Post has learned. Icahn Automotive Group’s holdings now include parts retailer Pep Boys, parts distributor Auto Plus and the service center chains Just Brakes and Precision Tune Auto Care. The investor also owns Federal-Mogul, an OEM and after-market parts supplier. “The risk is small relative to the reward,” Icahn said, believing that creating the first true auto parts vertical will make the companies he is buying much more valuable. Ultimately, an option is to debut IAG in an initial public offering, the investor said. IAG paid about $125 million for Aamco — bringing to 1,900 the number of service centers it owns, a source estimates. Also on the IAG drawing board are adding collision centers to Pep Boys locations. Separately, Icahn owns 35 percent of Hertz Global Holdings and about 3 percent of ride-hailing company Lyft. IAG services fleets including Hertz cars leased by Lyft drivers. Meanwhile, the practice of monitoring bathroom brakes at IAG’s Auto Plus is no longer being done, Icahn said. The investor said he was not aware of the practice, which his CEO Dan Ninivaggi said was not actually being enforced in the few locations where there were bathroom scanners, before the story ran in The Post. Icahn said he is spending millions of dollars training mechanics on modern auto technology.
  7. I've bought tires at Sears, Goodyear, and Firestone. Most of the time its a matter of seeing what's on sales and what rebates are available. Sears is dying so maybe you can get a deal there!
  8. They say that every 5 years technology advances more than it did in the last 10 years and some would argue it's not 5 but 2 years. The internet has taken everything into a new era of shopping, communication, and connectivity, just to name a few things that have changed. If you look at what we are on the brink of in the automotive industry, it really is revolutionary and game changing. Electric and autonomous vehicles are here and coming on strong. Some people think it's not going to amount to much and the world is never going to ditch the internal combustion engine, especially with the big oil companies making tons of money. But, there is a reason why car makers are starting to make a shift, did Tesla start this? Yeah they all had hybrids out there that never really caught on, but Tesla is catching on in a big way. Volvo is going to stop manufacturing internal combustion engines in 2018, what does that say? BMW and other manufacturers are looking at this and building strategies for the future, and I don't think they all include gas in the tank... Tesla is about to unveil an all electric semi truck, now that would be a huge industry disruption...check out Tesla May Tease a Second Car Alongside its Semi-Truck Reveal Next Month Now, let's talk auto parts on this auto parts forum...what happens in this sector, namely aftermarket parts? Electric and Autonomous vehicles get harder to work on in the future and your average repair shop will steer away, let alone a DIY'er who replaces a set of brake pads on a weekend. I think the landscape for auto parts sales changes drastically in the next 10 years, while sales continue to bleed from brick and mortar stores to online. It's going to hurt a lot of people who are employed in this industry and not trained for the next thing....and it all started with the 56k modem and getting everyone online! Read this article posted today Forget Amazon, Tesla Is The Bigger Threat To The Auto Parts Retail Sector Thoughts, comments? Think back 10 years ago and fast forward to what we see today...it's insane.

  10. Interesting article about the big 3 retailers. Advance seems to be losing market share while Autozone is said to be able to ride out online and retail competitive pressures, while O'reilly is growing. https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/17/09/10015072/the-auto-parts-trade-autozone-vs-advance-vs-oreilly Keep a vehicle long enough and you’re bound to make a trip to the parts store, but which of the big chains is best positioned to motor ahead? No. 2 Advance Auto Parts, Inc. AAP 1.36% is looking like an also-ran compared to AutoZone, Inc. AZO 0.23% and O'Reilly Automotive Inc ORLY 1.72%, according Bank of America Merrill Lynch analyst Elizabeth L. Suzuki. Advance Losing Market Share She put Advance at Underperform and set a price target of $87.50, reinstating coverage of the stock and two of its rivals. It was trading at $97.94, down 12 cents at last check. She rated AutoZone at Buy and set a price target of $625. It was trading at $544.55, up 5.78 percent, at last check. She rated O’Reilly Automotive a Buy with a price target of $250. It was at $200.15, up 1.61 percent. Advance has been hit hardest among the parts chains, down 42 percent on the year compared to 30 percent for the sector, she wrote. Its problems include market share loss and restructuring efforts that have yet to pay off in earnings growth. Advance has to be hoping for restructuring initiates to bear fruit, a significant downturn in new vehicle sales, improvements in the supply chain or a buyout by one of its competitors. Industry leader AutoZone seems position to withstand the online and bricks-and-mortar competition, she wrote. No. 3 O’Reilly plans to add 190 stores this year and its robust network of distribution centers and hub stores enables it to deliver parts quickly.
  11. I have used this website before and have purchased AC Delco from Amazon at relatively good prices that beat your mainstream retailers. You have to check though because sometimes you can find it elsewhere for less and even on ebay.
  12. Hello everyone, new here. I am curious if anyone has sold parts on eBay or Amazon as a business. I don't just mean selling a few brake pads that you never used or something like that...lol. I mean a real functioning business where you are buying from a wholesaler or direct and then setting up your product online for sale. With that comes replenishment, margins, tax, etc. So I'm curious to know if this is working for anyone and how you got started, what software you are using, best practices, etc. Thanks, "Tie" Rod
