Magna Expanding Operations in Ontario

Recommended Posts

Magna announced it is investing more than $470 million to expand its operations across Ontario.

The growth includes a new battery-enclosures facility in Brampton to support the Ford F-150 Lightning and future OEM programs.

In addition to the Brampton facility, Magna says it is growing in its locations in Guelph, Belleville, Newmarket, Windsor and Penetanguishene. These expansions follow new-business awards from various automakers in key product areas. They are also supported by $23.6 million in grants from the Ontario government to bring additional high-quality jobs to the region with ongoing training and development programs for employees.

Magna says the new and expanded operations are expected to bring more than 1,000 new jobs to Ontario over the next few years.

“Magna’s roots in Ontario run deep, and we are excited about opening a new facility dedicated to a strategic electrification product,” said Eric Wilds, Magna chief sales and marketing officer. “The Brampton facility, coupled with investment and growth in five existing Ontario facilities, allows Magna to keep up with customer demands across several product areas. We are excited to bring new business, more investment and additional jobs to Ontario.”

“This investment represents another tremendous show of confidence in the growing strength and resilience of our province’s auto sector,” said Premier Doug Ford. “Together, with our industry partners, we’re putting Ontario back on the map as we build up Ontario’s electric vehicle supply chain from mining to manufacturing. The cars of the future and the batteries that power them will be built right here in Ontario, by Ontario workers.”

ZF Aftermarket announced it is launching 16 new part numbers for continuous damping control (CDC) shock absorbers available for passenger vehicles in the U.S. and Canada, covering a variety of BMW 5, 6 and 7 models.
In addition, the company said it is expanding the range of TRW brake boosters and master cylinders originally launched at AAPEX 2023.
ZF Aftermarket also is planning to release additional CDC part numbers in the first quarter of 2024.
The CDC electronic damper system has been in large-scale original equipment production since the mid-2000s and is offered for many vehicles, from luxury cars to SUVs to compact cars. “ZF has produced more than 34 million CDC dampers globally, setting the stage for growing demand in the aftermarket,” the company said.
SACHS CDC shocks for passenger cars provide perfect damping in any situation, according to ZF Aftermarket. State- of-the-art technology continually records variables that affect ride control, anticipating and adjusting the damping force to the external conditions.
“We are very pleased to offer SACHS continuous damping control shocks in the USC market and look forward to continuing to build out this product line, Likewise, we are expanding the availability of TRW braking products to provide our customers with even more ‘True Original’ parts,” said Mark Cali, head of independent aftermarket, USC for ZF Aftermarket.
ZF said it is also adding 53 part numbers for TRW brake boosters, extending the range of ZF brake boosters to a wide range European make vehicles in the USC market.
ZF Aftermarket is also expanding its line of TRW brake master cylinders manufactured in steel, aluminum or cast iron. The 69 new parts feature OE-specified rubber seals and dust caps to resist ageing and come with fitting accessories included. TRW brake master cylinders also include a chrome 6-free “silver” finish for steel and cast-iron models for a protective, durable and rust-resistant coating that is free of heavy metals, the company said.

Advance Auto Parts announced the opening of a new Carquest Auto Parts and Worldpac distribution center in Bolton, Ontario.
The 580,000-square-foot facility is the first to combine Carquest and Worldpac DC operations under one roof.
Located at 8399 George Bolton Parkway, the new facility has the capacity to house more than 350,000 automotive parts serving the majority of domestic and import vehicles in Canada, according to the company.
The new Carquest and Worldpac distribution center employs more than 200 team members, with many team members living locally in Bolton, Caledon and surrounding communities.
“We are thrilled to warehouse our combined Carquest and Worldpac product offering in one building, providing our stores, branches and customers with the largest assortment of brands and superior service,” said Steve Gushie, president of Carquest Canada. “This distribution center enables us to stock more parts than ever before and its technology and quick replenishment system will help us deliver product to our customers quickly and efficiently. We appreciate the hard work of everyone at Carquest and Worldpac to make this happen.”
Today, the facility serves more than 130 Carquest stores and Worldpac branches across central and eastern Canada. These stores and branches serve more than 37,000 professional repair shops and automotive dealerships. This includes 500 TechNet Professional repair shops.
“With more motorists holding onto their vehicles longer, an expanded product offering is required to keep those older vehicles on the road,” said Jason Yurchak, Worldpac senior vice president, Canadian operations. “Bringing our Worldpac parts inventory together with Carquest under one roof allows us to carry parts for virtually every type of vehicle on the road today. Our DC team offers nightly replenishment of every Worldpac and Carquest facility with multiple same day deliveries, ensuring customers get the right part at the right time.”
The distribution-center team plans a formal grand opening and ribbon cutting event in spring 2023.
