FRAM Inks Partnership With NASCAR Cup Driver Daniel Suárez

FRAM announced that it has finalized a partnership with driver Daniel Suárez for the 2022 season of the NASCAR Cup Series.

Suárez will represent FRAM starting with the Bluegreen Vacations Duel at Daytona on February 17.

Suárez, who will be competing in his sixth season this year, will be driving the No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet. He says he is proud to carry the FRAM name as he competes at the highest level of stock car racing.

“FRAM is a brand I have loved and used in almost all of my cars for many years, and this affiliation is not only very organic, but also a partnership that speaks my language,” said Suárez. “Aside from being an amazing product for any car, FRAM’s ethos and what they stand for is something that really resonates with me: a product that anyone can easily use, from an experienced mechanic to a mom or dad trying to change their filter in their own car. I feel proud to be a FRAM athlete, and I will wear that badge with honor.”

Suárez grew up working alongside his father, Alejandro, in a car-restoration shop in his hometown of Monterrey, Mexico. It was there, in his father’s garage, where he was first introduced to FRAM filters and where he adopted a do-it-yourself approach to vehicle maintenance and repair.

      FRAM and TRICO – part of First Brands Group family of companies – have donated $40,000 to the CAL FIRE Benevolent Foundation to benefit the families of firefighters who are supported by the charitable organization.
      The donation was made at the No One Left Behind Spring Tribute Golf Tournament.
      First Brands Group Senior Director of Sales Nathan Giles and Director of Sales Erick Esparza were onsite to present CAL FIRE Benevolent Foundation President/CEO Kevin O’Meara with the check on behalf of FRAM and TRICO during the post-tournament reception.
      “We are proud to partner with such a remarkable organization,” said Giles. “The impact that the CAL FIRE Benevolent Foundation has on area firefighters and their families cannot be overstated, and we are truly honored to be able to support its lifechanging mission.”
      During the presentation of the donation check, O’Meara voiced his gratitude on behalf of the CAL FIRE Benevolent Foundation.
      “This generous donation will go a long way in helping our firefighters and their families in their time of need,” he said.
      More than 140 golfers participated in the team tournament on May 16 at Half Moon Bay Golf Links. The event was held to benefit firefighters and their families who have suffered a debilitating injury, loss of life, were burned on duty, have an illness or need financial assistance.
      The tournament began with a post-registration breakfast before a shotgun start accompanied by CAL FIRE Local 2881’s Honor Guard & Pipes and Drums. The event concluded with a silent auction, awards ceremony, check presentation and reception dinner.
      Firefighters from CAL FIRE Local 2881 formed the CAL FIRE Benevolent Foundation to engage in charitable and educational activities in support of the families of firefighters facing financial need. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit also assists burn victims while funding critical research around the occupational hazards facing firefighters.

      Advance Auto Parts, entitlement sponsor of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series (NAAPWS), announced the return of its “Advance My Track Challenge,” a program that spotlights NASCAR’s short tracks in communities across North America.
      During the program, race fans are invited to vote for their favorite NASCAR home track, with the most popular track winning a $50,000 grand prize. The voting window is open on

      The top six tracks receiving the most votes will move on to the final round, taking place May 9-13. The track with the most fan votes in the final round will win the grand prize, courtesy of Advance. The track finishing with the second-most votes will receive $15,000, and the third-place track will win $10,000.
      Teams at winning tracks may use winnings for facility enhancements or to establish community-based programs with schools, nonprofits or other local organizations.   
      “We are thrilled to bring the Advance My Track Challenge to race fans for a second year,” said Jason McDonell, Advance’s executive vice president of merchandising, marketing and e-commerce. “NASCAR’s home tracks and the Weekly Series play a critical role in our sport, giving local racers and future superstars the opportunity to put on a great show for their communities.       In support of the program, Advance My Track Challenge branding will be featured on Team Penske’s No. 12 Advance Auto Parts Ford Mustang driven by Ryan Blaney at this Saturday’s race at the Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Virginia.
       “Short-track racing has been part of my family for generations, and we’ve had great memories at the track,” said Blaney, a third-generation race car driver and seven-time NASCAR Cup Series race winner. “Ensuring the success of local tracks is something that’s important to me and my family, so it’s exciting to have a partner like Advance who is making it their mission to support NASCAR’s Home Tracks. We look forward to racing with Advance My Track Challenge on our Ford at Martinsville, one of NASCAR’s most iconic grassroots-style tracks.”
      The Advance My Track Challenge launched in 2021, with the $50,000 grand prize awarded to Berlin Raceway, a 7/16-mile paved oval track located just outside Grand Rapids, Michigan. More than 122,000 votes were cast by race fans during last year’s voting window.  
      Advance’s support of NASCAR’s home tracks extends beyond the Advance My Track Challenge. The retailer is using its season-long sponsorship of Blaney’s No. 12 Ford to showcase NASCAR-sanctioned short tracks across the United States and Canada. Each week, two different tracks will be featured on Blaney’s car. For every Blaney Cup Series victory, the winning track(s) on his car each will receive $1,200 from Advance. Through Blaney’s three NASCAR victories last season, Advance awarded winnings to six different NASCAR home tracks.

      Earlier this month, AutoZone reported stellar results for its fiscal 2022 second quarter. DIFM sales set the pace.
      For the quarter, which ended Feb. 12, AutoZone reported a 32.1% year-over-year increase in domestic commercial sales. The domestic DIFM sales total of $844 million was a second-quarter record for the company.
      Weekly domestic commercial sales per store were $13,500 – another second-quarter record – up from $10,500 in the fiscal 2021 second quarter.
      Overall, AutoZone’s fiscal 2022 second-quarter net sales were up nearly 16% to $3.4 billion. Domestic commercial sales accounted for 25% of that total – yet another company record – up from 21.9% of total net sales in the second quarter of FY 2021.
      Perhaps the most impressive stat: On a two-year basis, domestic commercial sales are up a whopping 46%.
      During the company’s March 1 conference call, AutoZone CEO Bill Rhodes noted that that the company doesn’t have good visibility into industry data that would quantify how much AutoZone has grown its DIFM market share in recent years. However, he acknowledged that “we are quite comfortable that we’re growing share exponentially” versus the overall aftermarket.
      On several occasions, Rhodes made a point to emphasize that AutoZone’s recent price cuts have not been the primary catalyst for its accelerated growth in DIFM sales.
      “They are an element, not the element of our growth,” Rhodes said. “About four years ago, we embarked on a new strategy in commercial, and we looked at all elements of our offerings. We changed the assortment methodology in every store in the United States. Every store has a different product assortment that leans further into the commercial business today than it did four years ago.
      “We also said, ‘How are we going to get significant increase in local-market availability? And we came up with this concept called a megahub store.”
      AutoZone’s megahub stores typically stock around 100,000 SKUs, “and drive tremendous sales lift inside the store box as well as serve as an expanded assortment source for other stores,” CFO Jamere Jackson explained during the call.
      As of the end of its fiscal second quarter, AutoZone had 64 megahub stores, and Jackson said the company plans to open 14 more megahub locations throughout the rest of its fiscal 2022.
      “The expansion of coverage and parts availability continues to deliver a meaningful sales lift to both our commercial and DIY business,” Jackson said. “And we are testing greater density of megahubs to drive even stronger sales results. What we’re learning is that not only are these assets performing well individually, but the fulfillment capability for the surrounding AutoZone stores gives our customers access to thousands of additional parts and lifts the entire network.”
      AutoZone executives have stated publicly that the goal is to establish at least 110 meghahub locations, but Rhodes said that number could end up being closer to 200.
      “One of the things about the mega hubs: Every time we measure them, they do better than our projections – period. Every single time,” Rhodes added.  
      Regarding the DIFM sales growth, Rhodes also pointed to improvements in the effectiveness of AutoZone’s front-line sales personnel and delivery drivers, and technology upgrades that make AutoZone “easier to do business with.”
      “We’ve taken our sales force – which was relatively immature and, frankly, brand new a decade ago – and as they mature and develop tenure, they’re getting more professional and better at their sales techniques.
      “We’ve deployed the single-largest technology endeavor of the company’s history in the commercial business. We’ve enhanced how we interact with our customers digitally. We’ve also rolled out handheld devices to all stores and all drivers, so that when they’re picking the products, we make sure we have the right products, and when we deliver the products, we can understand delivery times. We’re driving our delivery times down about 15% so far, and that’s nowhere near our goal. So we’re improving our service on that front.”
      He also pointed to the Duralast battery brand, “which continues to become stronger and stronger across the board.”
      Regarding the pricing element of the company’s DIFM strategy, Rhodes noted that AutoZone traditionally has been “premium-priced” compared to its competitors, “because our service offering is “premium-priced.”
      “I’d like to address the subject of pricing, and if AutoZone’s pricing disciplines or philosophies have changed from past practices,” Rhodes said during his prepared remarks. “The short answer is a resounding ‘no.’
      “While we initiated a retail pricing adjustment last year in Q1, and further adjusted some commercial pricing in quarters 2 through 4, these moves were done to be price-competitive, but with other channels – not with our direct competitors. Specifically, in the retail business, we reduced our premiums to mass, particularly on highly visible commodity products.
      “Regarding the more significant change in commercial. Our prices have always, always been meaningfully higher than our WD competitors, as our service level is superior. Our pricing changes over the last year or so have been to narrow – I emphasize narrow – but not eliminate that gap.”
      Rhodes asserted that AutoZone’s pricing adjustments have “narrowed that premium by roughly half.”
      “While this has created some consternation in the investment community, we think our results have shown that this was a prudent and productive decision,” Rhodes said. “We continue to see our industry as very rational when it comes to pricing strategies. And I want to be clear – crystal clear. I don’t want anyone to conclude that our growth in commercial is solely due to pricing.”
