Hot Shot’s Secret Expands Distribution of EDT+ Winter Defense

Hot Shot’s Secret recently announced new distribution of EDT+ Winter Defense, a seven-in-one anti-gel fuel booster developed to keep diesel-powered vehicles operable and improve cold starts when temps start to drop below freezing.

The 16-ounce measurable squeeze bottle is now available at all locations of O’Reilly Auto Parts stores nationwide.

EDT+ Winter Defense offers all the benefits of Hot Shot’s Secret’s fuel additive, Everyday Diesel Treatment, and adds anti-gel and anti-icing properties to reduce fuel-line freeze-ups to keep diesel engines fully operational as low as minus 40 F, according to the company.  

The all-year diesel additive includes a powerful cetane booster, lubricity additive, injector cleaner and fuel-stabilizer chemicals to improve winter performance and protection of the fuel system, the company says.   

EDT+ Winter Defense is recommended for all diesel-powered vehicles, including cars, trucks, heavy-duty, semis, vans, buses, heavy-duty and ag equipment, and will not harm after-treatment systems, according to Hot Shot’s Secret, which recommends using before wax starts to form.

“In many parts of the country we have already seen heavy snowfall and cold temperatures,” Hot Shot’s Secret Brand Manager Josh Steinmetz said. “Diesel fuel is prone to wax deposits starting at 30 degrees. This product lowers the fuel-gelling point while improving the fuel combustibility, resulting in easier cold starts, reduced DPF regens and improved fuel economy.       GB Reman’s line of remanufactured fuel injectors are remanufactured using a proven 15-step process at its state-of-the-art facilities in Long Beach, California, according to the company.
      All injectors include new external seals, O-rings and filters. In addition, all GDI injectors include pre-installed combustion fuel-inlet seals and necessary hardware to ensure a complete and trouble-free installation.
      Once remanufactured, each injector is 100% tested under multiple operating conditions to ensure it meets or exceeds OEM specifications for flow rate, spray pattern, coil resistance, form, fit and function.

      GB Reman released two GDI fuel-injector multi-packs (PNs: 835-11156PK, 835-11158PK) covering 495 unique vehicle applications and more than 6 million vehicles in operation.
      Replacing GDI injectors in sets ensures balanced performance, consistent fuel atomization, and prevents drivability issues by maintaining uniformity across all cylinders. While it may involve a higher initial cost, replacing injectors in sets promotes cost-effectiveness in the long run by reducing the likelihood of future repairs and optimizing overall vehicle longevity.
      GDI Fuel Lines
      GB Reman released six GDI fuel lines (PNs: 892-001, 893-001, 893-002, 893-003, 895-001, 895-002) covering more than 1,000 unique vehicle applications and more than 9 million vehicles in operation.
      GDI fuel lines are responsible for delivering pressurized fuel from the fuel tank to the GDI injectors located near the combustion chamber of each cylinder. They play a crucial role in ensuring that the engine receives the right amount of fuel at the right pressure for efficient combustion. The fuel lines are designed to withstand the high operating pressures associated with GDI systems, which can be significantly higher than those in traditional port fuel-injection systems.
      Premium GDI Seal Tool Kit
      GB Reman released its new premium GDI seal tool kit (PN: GBTK-0001). The tool kit can be utilized to reseal more than 100 unique GDI injectors, covering more than 70 million vehicles in operation, according to the company.

      Standard Motor Products (SMP) continues to expand its gasoline fuel-injection program, which now has more than 2,100 part numbers.
      The program features more than 1,100 all-new gasoline direct injection (GDI), multi-port fuel injection (MFI) and throttle-body injection (TBI) injectors, as well as fuel-injector multi-packs for a complete repair solution, according to the company.  
      New fuel injectors manufactured by SMP are built in the company’s IATF 16949-certified facility in Greenville, South Carolina. Standard new fuel injectors are extensively tested at the Greenville facility for flow and spray pattern and durability to ensure that they match OE-designed performance in all conditions, according to SMP.  
      In addition to injectors, the Standard program includes high-pressure fuel pumps and kits, fuel-injector rail kits, fuel-pressure sensors, fuel-feed lines, fuel-pressure regulators, GDI service kits, fuel-pressure sensor connectors and camshaft followers, with coverage for import and domestic vehicles through the 2023 model year.
      Standard recently launched its line of direct-injection high-pressure fuel pump kits for popular import and domestic applications.
      “These award-winning kits simplify high-pressure fuel pump replacements by including everything needed for a complete repair: a high-pressure fuel pump, camshaft follower and any additional components needed based on the manufacturers’ repair procedures,” the company said in a news release. “These complete kits are designed to save technicians’ time and ensure that the job is done correctly the first time with all-new components.”
      New Coverage
      SMP recently released multiple new GDI and MFI Injectors, offering coverage for millions of Ford, Hyundai, Audi, Honda, Infiniti and Volvo vehicles.
      Popular applications include the 2022-2021 Ford F-150, 2023-2021 Hyundai Elantra, 2021-2019 Honda Insight and 2019-2017 Infiniti Q60.
      Several fuel-pressure sensors have been introduced, adding new coverage for popular vehicles such as the 2023-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2013-2006 Honda Civic.
      Fuel-feed lines are new for nearly 1 million Audi and Volkswagen vehicles, as well as the 2018-2013 Nissan Altima, 2020-2019 Toyota RAV4 and more.
      Fuel-pressure sensor connectors have been released for Ford vehicles through 2021 and Jeep vehicles through 2023.

      Lucas Oil Products, a long-time partner of both Richard Childress Racing and ECR Engines, will expand its partnership with Richard Childress Racing and Kyle Busch in 2024, the companies announced.
      The Indianapolis-based company will partner with RCR and Busch for multiple NASCAR Cup Series races and also continue as the official motor oil of ECR engines. 
      Lucas Oil will also serve as primary sponsor for both Kyle and Brexton Busch. Kyle will feature the Lucas Oil colors when he competes in the Micro Sprint car series. Kyle will debut the Lucas Oil colors on December 26 in The Tulsa Shootout. Brexton will also have Lucas on board in his 2024 racing program.

      Akebono Brake Corp. recently expanded its line of ProACT and EURO ultra-premium disc brake pads by five new part numbers: ACT2230, ACT2231, ACT2372, ACT2383 and EUR2136.

      As we brace for the worst this coming season has to offer, it’s time to get ahead of winter maintenance.
      Snow tires are one of the more obvious seasonal upgrades, adding a little more stability and traction on slippery roads. Even if your customers don’t need to perform a seasonal tire changeover, they should be checking tread depths, overall tire condition and air pressures regularly.
      As ambient temperatures drop, tire pressure drops with it. For every 10 degrees of change, you can expect to “lose” 1 pound of air pressure. TPMS sensors may trigger a warning light if these pressures drop below their preset thresholds, although the light may turn off after a few miles, as heat builds in the tire and the pressure increases. Some manufacturers even recommend increasing winter air pressure by 3 to 5 PSI to compensate for these temperature differences. Proper inflation also ensures that the tire has the optimal amount of contact with the road.
      Steering, suspension and brake systems work together to help keep those tires firmly planted on the pavement. Worn shocks, struts and chassis parts can affect steering and handling in slippery conditions, while imbalanced braking can affect stopping distance and straight-line deceleration. Inoperative or defective ABS components also may disable traction control and lane assist, as well as other advanced driving-assistance systems (ADAS).
      ADAS relies on information from the forward-facing camera(s) commonly found near the rear-view camera, so recommending a weatherproof winter or monobeam wiper of the correct size can help keep the camera view (and your own) clear and unobstructed.
      Your own field of vision can be further expanded with fresh or upgraded head-lamp and fog-lamp bulbs. Brighter or whiter lamps (when properly aimed) will cast a pattern further and wider than old bulbs in a hazy, clouded housing. It also makes you more visible to oncoming drivers. While checking the lighting, be sure to cycle the hazard switch along with your high/low beams and turn signals. In the event that you DO find yourself stranded roadside, visibility becomes an even bigger safety concern!
      It may seem strange to be concerned about checking over your A/C system before the mercury drops, but the windshield defroster/defogger function of the HVAC controls rely on the air conditioning to dehumidify the air inside the cabin. To defog your windshield quickly, turn OFF the recirculation feature, turn the fan to it highest setting and turn on the AC. Once it clears, you can turn down the fan, increase the temperature and enjoy a clearer view. Checking or changing your cabin filter now will also ensure optimum airflow through those vents.
      Keeping the heat circulating all winter means checking the cooling system now. Flushing the cooling system (including the heater core), or at least checking the level and concentration of the coolant is the first step to a warm vehicle. Once the system is up to temperature, cycle the controls through each setting, checking for proper operation of door actuators and the blower motor to prevent surprises later.
      Under the hood, check hoses and thermostat operation, along with any possible leaks from the radiator and water pump. Next, check belt and pulley condition while moving along to the starting and charging system.
      Winter is one of the hardest seasons on a battery. Test all batteries for adequate cold-cranking amperage and resting voltage. Remember that many vehicles equipped with start-stop and diesel trucks have TWO batteries, and that even hybrids have a starting battery separate from the giant battery pack that provides power to the electric motor(s). Terminal connections and cables should be clean and secure.
      A portable power pack/jump starter or a quality set of jumper cables make an excellent addition to your roadside emergency kit. Your emergency supplies also should include a first aid kit, a blanket or warm coat, flashlight, drinking water and non-perishable food. While you’re packing these supplies in the trunk, take the time to check the condition of your jack, lug wrench and spare tire (or inflator kit). With proper preventative maintenance, you and your customers can limit the potential for breakdowns, but still be well-prepared in the event of an emergency.
