TERREPOWER is expanding its recovery of brake caliper pistons. These components that are traditionally replaced in the remanufacturing process are now restored using enhanced recovery techniques, advanced testing protocols and engineering expertise,
link hidden, please login to view said. The pistons meet the same high standards expected of every TERREPOWER product. In the next few months, 70-80% of aluminum handbrake calipers in the range will feature recovered pistons. This effort saves up to 88 tons of iron, underscoring the large-scale impact of circular manufacturing, the company said.
      Building a Broader Program
“We’re continuously expanding the use of refurbished pistons, starting with aluminum handbrake calipers. As we move forward, we plan to include other types—like cast-iron handbrake calipers—into the program,” says Bertel Ravn, technical director at
link hidden, please login to view. The program is growing step by step, targeting a broader range of caliper types and materials. Each phase balances sustainability goals with performance standards, ensuring both advance together, the company said.
      Innovation That Boosts Sustainability
At TERREPOWER, sustainability is more than a commitment—it is the foundation of operations, the company said. For over 40 years, it has remanufactured brake calipers in Europe under the respected BUDWEG name. The goal has always been extending product life, reducing waste and delivering reliable aftermarket solutions.
The brake caliper piston recovery initiative builds on this foundation, pushing sustainability even further.
      Why Brake Caliper Pistons Matter
The brake caliper piston may be small, but its environmental impact is large, TERREPOWER said. Every piston recovered saves about 250 grams of raw material. That means less mining, casting, machining and logistics—all significant emissions reductions when measured at scale.
The company said quality remains central. Customers expect reliable performance, safety and proper fit. Sustainability enhances those values, rather than contradicting them.
      Precision and Responsibility in Manufacturing
Each remanufactured piston undergoes cleaning, assessment, restoration and strict testing. In-house engineering teams design protocols executed by trusted external partners. By applying the same precision that defines decades of caliper remanufacturing, TERREPOWER said it ensures recovered pistons meet industry standards consistently.
A Small Component with a Big Impact
At TERREPOWER, sustainability defines the path forward, the company said. Recovering brake caliper pistons represents a natural extension of its values: reducing waste, rethinking resources and delivering long-term value for customers and the environment.

MAHLE Motorsport announced four new performance cast PowerPak piston sets for the 6-liter and 6.4-liter Ford Powerstroke.
Developed in direct response to consumer demand for diesel motorsports competition, the new 6-liter pistons are based on the 2004+ design, and the 6.4-liter pistons are based on the MaxxForce design that provides maximum strength and superior durability, according to the company.
“All four sets offer incredible versatility, allowing a daily driver to become a weekend warrior for drag, dyno or pulling competitions,” the company added.
The castings retain the OEM steel top ring insert for the longevity of the top ring groove and are engineered with fully radiused valve pockets to reduce stress and fatigue cracking. Also, a lower compression ratio (.5 to 1.5 points) allows more flexibility for high-output tuning.
They’re designed with performance bowls that reduce erosion issues caused by high pressure, long duration and advanced injection timing, and available with 0.100-inch-deep intake and exhaust valve pockets that work with many performance aftermarket camshafts.
The 6-liter PowerPak set is cast from MAHLE’s proprietary M124 alloy and the 6.4-liter Powerstroke set is cast from M142 alloy. Both are designed for a 4.134 stroke and 6.929 rod. The CR is calculated with 0.0008-inch piston protrusion above deck and 0.059-inch head-gasket thickness.
As with all PowerPak piston sets, the pistons are treated with MAHLE’s proprietary GRAFAL skirt coating for reduced drag and increased scuff resistance. Heavy-duty DLC-coated tool steel wrist pins, clips and a high-performance ring set rounds out the PowerPak.
“Diesel motorsports is all the rage from NHRDA, ODSS to Ultimate Callout Challenge,” MAHLE Motorsport Program Manager, Joe Maylish said. “We’re excited to announce that MAHLE Motorsport is coming in strong for 2023 with new diesel piston sets in time for this year’s race season. So, if you are a seasoned competitor needing an edge or just thinking about competing this year, our new Powerstroke kits are designed to give you the edge on the weekends and improve performance throughout the week.”
