Standard Motor Products Expands Hybrid, EV Portfolio

Recommended Posts

Standard Motor Products (SMP) continues to expand its line of parts for hybrid and electric vehicles.

The hybrid and EV market is growing larger every day, and SMP is committed to continually adding to its product offering for these vehicles, as well as expanding its powertrain-neutral coverage, the company said.

Approximately 7 million hybrid vehicles are currently on the road, and many of them are more than 10 years old. With two distinctly different powertrains – a conventional internal combustion engine and an electric motor – these vehicles feature more components when compared to gas and diesel vehicles.

Hybrid repair opportunities continue to grow thanks to a growing vehicle population, an aging fleet and multiple drivetrain components. Standard and Four Seasons are prepared to meet the demand, with more than 4,000 parts available for 150 models, according to the company.

Electric vehicles use the same sensors, switches and climate-control systems as ICE vehicles, while adding new opportunities around the thermal management of high-voltage battery and drive motor components. Currently, SMP offers more than 1,900 parts for 40 models, with more parts being introduced on a consistent basis.

Additionally, SMP offers more than 50,000 powertrain-neutral parts through its Standard and Four Seasons brands. These parts fit vehicles regardless of powertrain and include categories like advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) components, collision repair parts, A/C compressors and thousands of other switches, sensors, actuators and connectors.

“As hybrid and electric vehicle sales increase, SMP is prepared to meet the growing demand for high-quality replacement parts,” said Jack Ramsey, senior vice president of sales and marketing, SMP. “Standard and Four Seasons are dedicated to staying ahead of the curve, engineering and manufacturing superior products that last.”

From 2022 through February of this year, SMP has added substantial coverage for hybrid and electric vehicles through its Standard and Four Seasons brands. In total, SMP added 258 SKUs for hybrid vehicles, 60 SKUs for electric vehicles and 1,530 SKUs in the powertrain-neutral category.

Recent additions include a universal battery pack charging cord for electric vehicles and stoplight switches and brake-pedal travel sensors for hybrid models like the Toyota Prius and Lexus ES300h. The array of powertrain-neutral parts added include park-assist cameras, dome-light switches, rocker switches, power sunroof motors, taillight connectors and much more.

All new Standard EV and hybrid products are listed in the e-catalog found at

link hidden, please login to view announced the launch of a new passenger car motor oil – Red Diamond Ultimate. The company said the oil is formulated to fully meet the General Motors dexos1 Gen 3 specification among others but is also formulated to keep the oil cleaner for longer periods of time while improving performance, engine system protection, mileage and horsepower. In a news release announcing the new product, the company said Red Diamond Ultimate passenger car motor oil uses 100% Group III base oils and is infused with Hot Shot’s Secret’s proprietary FR3 Nano Technology. It is suited for both hybrid and internal combustion engines, especially small displacement, turbocharged GDI engines where it can protect against low-speed pre-ignition. The company added that Red Diamond protects against timing chain and valve wearing that often occurs and fights the formation of high temperature deposits that drain horsepower and fuel economy.
“We’re thrilled to offer passenger car motor oil and exclusively to our dealer network,” said
link hidden, please login to viewBrand Manager, Josh Steinmetz. “With three viscosities, we expect a lot of demand for this product given the compatibility for any vehicle where Dexos1 Gen 3 is specified. Also, it also exceeds API SM, SN and SN Plus and many of the Ford and Chrysler motor oil specs. Adding this oil to our lineup allows service centers to offer an outstanding oil to protect their customer’s vehicles.”  Red Diamond Ultimate Motor Oil is available in three viscosity weights — 0W-20, 5W-20 and 5W-30 now and in three sizes — 5-gallon, 55-gallon and 330-gallon.

      South Korea’s
link hidden, please login to view Group said on July 1 that it is seeking to seize an early lead in the booming automotive market in Southeast Asia, thanks to its established presence in several countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The group said that its first automotive manufacturing plant in the ASEAN region, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI), produced 22,520 vehicles in the first quarter of this year, achieving an operating rate of 110.9%. Hyundai said that this figure was the highest among all its overseas factories during the same period.
Last year’s operating rate at HMMI was just 50.3%, showing that both demand and supply for Hyundai in the local market have grown rapidly in the past year.

Hyundai Motor has committed to investing approximately $1.55 billion in HMMI by 2030. HMMI currently oversees the production of vehicles including the super-mini SUV Creta, compact multi-purpose vehicle Stargazer, mid-size SUV Santa Fe, and the award-winning electric vehicle IONIQ 5. Through May 31st of this year, HMMI has sold a total of 1,927,92 vehicles.
Hyundai also highlighted its electric vehicle battery production in Southeast Asia. The company established a joint cell factory with South Korean battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution in Karawang New Industry City, Indonesia, in June last year.
The joint venture, named HLI Green Power, began mass production of cells in April this year. Hyundai stated that the Kona Electric will be the first vehicle to feature cells produced in Southeast Asia. The company noted that this will make Hyundai the first automaker in Indonesia to have a complete production and sales chain for electric vehicles.
Hyundai sold 7,475 electric vehicles in Indonesia last year, accounting for 43.8% of the market and becoming the country’s largest electric vehicle seller. Hyundai stated that although it is leading in the electric vehicle market, Chinese electric vehicle brands are actively expanding their business in Indonesia and reiterated its plan to pay more attention to the ASEAN region.

link hidden, please login to view According to foreign media reports, the Australian Federal Automobile Industry Chamber of Commerce released automobile sales data in May, the month of new car sales in Australia hit a record high. Sales of hybrid vehicles doubled year on year to reach 15.8 percent of the market, compared with a 0.4 percent increase in electric vehicle sales.
Almost one in every four new cars in Australia is currently a low-emission vehicle, so hybrid and electric vehicles are taking a greater share of the market. Meanwhile, Australians’ love affair with larger cars is still on the rise, with SUVs still dominating and ute sales continuing to grow.
This trend has more than doubled the popularity of hybrid cars in 2024, with more than 66,000 units sold, compared to less than 30,000 in the same period in 2023.
Electric vehicle sales also increased in Australia in May, with more than 8,900 units sold, accounting for 8.1 per cent of all new car sales, with more than 40,000 new electric vehicles on the road in Australia in the first five months of the year.
Tony Weber, the chamber’s chief executive, said the auto industry is working hard to meet the needs of drivers. “The continued growth in vehicle sales underscores consumer confidence and demonstrates the industry’s ability to meet the diverse needs of Australian consumers in the face of the current economic challenges,” he said.
However, large vehicles remain a popular choice for drivers regardless of fuel consumption, with SUVs accounting for more than half of vehicles sold and light commercial vehicles accounting for 22 percent of new vehicles. UTE also took three of the top five best-selling cars in May, with the Ford Ranger taking the top spot, followed by the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu’s D-Max light truck in fourth place.

Toyota was again the top-selling car manufacturer in Australia for the month, followed by Ford, Mazda, Kia and Hyundai. The data also showed a drop in sales for electric car leader Tesla, with the US company selling 3,567 vehicles in Australia in May, compared with 4,476 in the same month last year.
Its main electric car rival BYD, however, saw sales climb, with the Chinese company selling 1,914 electric vehicles in the month, up 32 percent from a year earlier.
The growing sales of electric and hybrid vehicles come ahead of the introduction in January of Australia’s first fuel efficiency standard, a legal standard that will set emissions limits on carmakers’ fleets of passenger cars, large and commercial vehicles in an attempt to reduce transport emissions by 2030.
