Eckes Captures Milestone Win for MHR and NAPA Auto Care Team

Christian Eckes returned to victory lane at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) in thrilling fashion to give McAnally-Hilgemann Racing the organization’s first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) victory on Saturday afternoon. The driver of the No. 19

Chevrolet Silverado RST reclaimed the points lead after racking up 50 points and capturing his second stage win of the year. The victory gives Eckes and his team a virtual lock to the NCTS playoffs for the third time in his career.

The Middletown, N.Y., native started the 137-lap event from the fourth position after inclement weather washed out qualifying on Friday afternoon. Eckes boldly asserted himself as a threat by taking the lead on the opening lap and dominated Stage 1. The NAPA Auto Care Chevrolet paced the field on the outside of the AMS high banks until a caution flew on lap 24. Crew chief Charles Denike kept Eckes on track to go for the stage win, and the call paid off. Eckes held off all challengers on lap 30 to earn 10 points and one playoff point with his second stage win of 2023 after leading every lap.

Eckes pitted under the stage caution for right side tires and restarted 20th on lap 38 as the running order flip-flopped due to contrasting pit strategies. Eckes stayed in the lead draft for the majority of Stage 2 and ran as high as ninth but was scored 14th at the end of the segment on lap 60. Denike put four tires on Eckes’ Chevrolet, which allowed him to restart 11th on lap 68. Another quick caution on lap 79 offered Eckes the chance to top off with fuel for the final run, but he was caught speeding on pit road.

Eckes started his march back to the front from 28th position on lap 84 and took advantage of every opportunity to claw his way back into contention. A restart on lap 103 saw him rocket to 11th, which included a four-wide maneuver to cut through the pack. Eckes worked the less-preferred bottom lane to perfection as he capitalized on the restarts to crack the top five on lap 121, and he claimed the runner-up spot on lap 123. A late caution set up an overtime restart. Eckes elected to take the bottom of the front row, which proved to be the winning decision. Eckes traded the lead with fellow Chevrolet driver Nick Sanchez on the overtime restart and used a surge of momentum on the final lap to pull alongside for the lead down the backstretch. Eckes held the lead on the final lap as a caution waved coming out of Turn 4 to secure the victory, his third playoff berth, and his first victory at AMS.

“Just really happy,” Eckes said. “Thanks to Charles (Denike), everybody on this team. They work so damn hard and this is what makes it all worth it. Thanks to NAPA, Chevrolet, everybody. I’m pumped. It’s going to be a really good year.

“I think this is just what I kind of figured was going to happen coming here. I knew the potential of Charles (Denike), and I knew the potential of the race team, and Bill’s passion to win, so it made my decision to come here really easy.”

Start / Finish: 4 / 1
Points Standing / Total: 1st / 151 pts.

For race car drivers, doing the double involves competing in both the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in the same day. It is one of the most challenging feats for any race car driver to attempt, given the significant differences between open-wheeled INDYCAR SERIES cars and NASCAR stock cars. In fact, only four drivers have completed the double since 1994.
This includes three-time NASCAR Cup Series™ champion Tony Stewart, who won the 1997 INDYCAR SERIES title prior to beginning his hall-of-fame NASCAR career. Stewart is partnering with Advance on  link hidden, please login to view and is the perfect ambassador for the program.
Stewart has done the double twice. His first attempt came in 1999 when he became the first driver to complete both races in the same day, finishing ninth and fourth, respectively, in the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600, driving a total of 1,090 miles.
Stewart repeated this feat in 2001 and bettered his mark from 1999. He finished on the lead lap in sixth at the Indianapolis 500 before jetting off to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600. He improved that finish as well, coming home third in the 600-miler. Stewart completed all 1,100 miles – breaking his own record for most racing miles driven in a single day.
“This is the chance of a lifetime for a fan to also complete the double by having a front-row seat at the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600,” Stewart said. “Advance Auto Parts has put together a fantastic program that is truly unique. Doing the double is history in the making and thanks to Advance, a fan and their guest will get to experience it all in real time. They’ll both be able to say, ‘I was there.’”
“Historically, doing the double has been a journey reserved for only the world’s most talented and dedicated race car drivers, like Advance brand partner Tony Stewart,” said Junior Word, Advance’s executive vice president, U.S. stores. “Now, one lucky Speed Perks member will have the unique opportunity to ‘get in the driver’s seat’ to experience their own version of the double. Advance is thrilled to work alongside our partners at NASCAR, INDYCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway to give two race fans the memory of a lifetime.”

High Limit Racing returned to full-time competition over the weekend with two stops the Lone Star State, and Brad Sweet earned a pair of top-five finishes in a strong restart for the
link hidden, please login to view No. 49 team. With Friday night’s program at Texarkana 67 Speedway canceled due to rain, Sweet and the No. 49 team made their way directly to Texas Motor Speedway for Saturday night’s show. With 49 days since his last race, the Big Cat was determined to make a mark on the series and the season. Sweet set the pace right from the start. During qualifying, the NAPA driver claimed the top spot with a blistering, 13.735-second lap.
As competition heated up, the five-time World of Outlaws champion continued to shine. Sweet finished third after starting fourth in his heat race and earned a ticket to the dash by being the fastest car in his heat. During the dash draw, Sweet drew fifth. He maintained his position over seven laps to line up fifth to start the feature. He again advanced during the evening’s feature race, crossing the line third for the final podium spot.
On Sunday, the No. 49 team traveled to Crandall, Texas, for another evening of High Limit Racing at RPM Speedway. Sweet wasted no time, showing again in qualifying the speed of the NAPA machine. Posting a lightning-fast lap time of 12.245 seconds, the Big Cat went to the top of the speed chart.
In his heat race, Sweet climbed from fourth to second, securing a spot in the dash. Starting in sixth place gave the team seven laps to perfect their setup for the main event. The NAPA driver advanced to fifth and locked in that spot for the start of the evening’s 30-lap main event.
The NAPA No. 49 team put forth their best effort as Sweet navigated the Crandall race track. Maintaining his position throughout the race, Sweet crossed the finish line in fifth for his second top-five finish on the weekend.
