MirrorEye Camera Monitoring System Replaces Rearview Mirror

Recommended Posts

Chongqing Feilong Jiangli learns from foreign media that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Stoneridge have reached an agreement to allow their applications to obtain exemptions from the "parts and components required for safe operation" regulations. FMCSA granted the company a five-year exemption, allowing it to install a camera monitoring system in the rearview mirrors on both sides of the truck, replacing the original rearview mirror equipment with MirrorEye, so that its safety is the same as or even higher than the requirements of the above regulations.

The decision-making of FMCSA effectively uses MirrorEye system as a post-market product through legal channels, aiming at collecting data for NHTSA and carrying out feasibility analysis of MirrorEye application.

MirrorEye replaced the rearview mirror with an integrated external digital camera and a digital surveillance system in the cockpit. Stonewich said that the system expands vision, provides full-color night vision, automatic camera translation, and aims to continuously track the end of the trailer. Compared with the traditional rearview mirror, the system is more secure.

FMCSA validated MirrorEye's wide-angle, narrow-angle and overlooking cameras. It is estimated that the angle of view has been increased by 25%. The failure safety design of the system has been evaluated as follows: CMS has an independent video processing system, which can process images captured by multiple cameras. When one camera fails, other cameras can display images continuously to ensure display. The display can continuously display real-time images.

In fact, MirrorEye may not be safer, but the system has improved the dynamics of European trucks and saved 2-3% of fuel consumption.

Spangenberg, the company's executive, said: "In the future, the system will become a basic platform. If the technology is fully developed in the future, it will also give full play to data storage, data acquisition and real-time insight into road conditions.
