Ford modular engine builders now can indulge in their quest for more power with the introduction of MAHLE Motorsport’s new Ford 5-liter Modular Coyote PowerPak piston set for 2018+ engines. 

This piston set is designed to lower the compression ratio to 10.4 to 1 to allow for power adders for those who want to build a high-horsepower Coyote build. 

The pistons are dual-coated with phosphate and MAHLE’s proprietary GRAFAL coating for reduced drag and wear. This set features hard anodized top ring grooves for maximum durability for extreme-duty applications, and comes complete with a 1.0 mm, 1.0 mm, 2.0 mm file fit performance ring set, and 0.177 wall pins each weighing 118 grams. 

The piston compression height is 1.167, and the weight is 383 grams. The slipper skirt forged piston set utilizes a low silicon 2618 alloy for high load, high stress applications.

      If you've owned a Ford long enough, you've probably heard someone say, "It turned out to be the PCM." While the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) isn't the most common failure point, it can create symptoms that look like almost anything else.
      Because the PCM controls critical engine and transmission functions, a fault can easily be mistaken for bad sensors, ignition issues, or even a failing transmission. That often leads to replacing parts that weren't actually the problem.
      Common Symptoms of a Failing Ford PCM
      Here are some of the symptoms I've seen discussed most often:
      Check Engine Light that returns after repairs Engine cranks but won't start Random stalling while driving Rough idle or engine misfires Poor fuel economy Delayed or harsh transmission shifts Cooling fan running constantly Multiple communication (U-code) errors No communication with the scan tool The tricky part is that these symptoms can also be caused by wiring problems, low battery voltage, damaged grounds, or faulty sensors.
      Don't Assume the PCM Is Bad
      Before replacing the PCM, it's worth checking a few basics:
      Battery voltage and charging system All PCM power and ground circuits Fuses and relays Wiring harness damage Corroded or loose connectors CAN Bus communication Water intrusion around the PCM I've seen situations where a damaged ground cable or corroded connector caused symptoms identical to a failed PCM.
      Ford Models That Come Up Frequently
      Certain Ford platforms seem to generate more PCM-related discussions than others, including:
      Ford F-150 Ford Explorer Ford Escape Ford Expedition Ford Mustang Ford Ranger Ford Super Duty (F-250/F-350) Ford Fusion That doesn't necessarily mean the PCM is defective—it simply means these vehicles are commonly diagnosed when electrical or drivability issues appear.
      When Replacement Becomes Necessary
      If you've confirmed the PCM itself has failed, replacing it isn't always as simple as plugging in another module. Depending on the model year and vehicle, the replacement PCM may require:
      VIN programming Security (PATS) programming Calibration updates Idle or transmission relearn procedures Installing an incorrect or unprogrammed module can prevent the vehicle from starting or lead to additional fault codes.
      Final Thoughts
      Modern Ford trucks and SUVs rely heavily on electronics, so accurate diagnosis is more important than ever. Taking the time to verify power, grounds, wiring, and communication before replacing expensive components can save both time and money.
