The Equipment & Tool Institute (ETI) announced that Executive Director Brian Plott retired on June 30, 2025. He served the Equipment & Tool Institute for six years and provided more than four decades of leadership in the automotive aftermarket.
“Brian’s vision and steady leadership guided ETI through one of the most transformative chapters in our 75-year history,” said Chris Bahlman, president and chair of the ETI Board of Directors. “From international expansion to the evolution of our Industry Technology Conference, his impact will be felt for years to come. On behalf of the board and our membership serving over 100,000 professional repairers, we offer our gratitude and best wishes for his well-earned retirement.”
Winston Lee Assumes Interim Executive Director Role
The ETI Board appointed Winston Lee as interim executive director, effective July 1, 2025. He previously served as ETI Europe’s Managing Director. Lee brings 20 years of technical, operational and advocacy experience with ETI member companies.
Lee played a leading role in developing secure vehicle interface standards and expanding training initiatives. He expressed his commitment to supporting members and advancing independent repairers during the leadership transition.
“I’m honored to serve our members during this transition,” said Winston Lee. “With the guidance of the board and the support of our dedicated staff and volunteers, ETI will continue to deliver the tools, data access, and collaborative forums that keep independent repairers at the forefront of advanced vehicle service.”
Strategic Oversight at the Equipment & Tool Institute
The board will evaluate ETI’s needs before choosing a permanent Executive Director or adjusting long-term strategy. Chris Bahlman will remain President/Board Chair through April 2026 in a volunteer capacity. He will collaborate with Winston and the staff to carry out ETI’s strategic plan.
