Federated Car Care To Sponsor SRX Series Race On July 16

Federated Car Care will be the presenting sponsor of the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) race on July 16 at the Federated Auto Parts Raceway in Pevely, Missouri.

The race is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Central time and will be televised nationally on CBS-TV.

“We are excited for Federated Car Care to be a part of the SRX series, which has quickly become one of the most fun and popular racing series in the country,” said J.R. Bishop, motorsports and event marketing director for Federated Auto Parts. “We are also thrilled that Federated’s great friend, Kenny Schrader, will be one of the competitors. We know our members and Federated Car Care customers across the country will be cheering on Kenny.”

Announced in July 2020, the SRX series was founded by NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Tony Stewart, NASCAR Hall of Fame crew chief Ray Evernham, George Pyne and Sandy Montag. The series made its debut last summer and is presenting six races this summer, all airing nationally on CBS.

For the Federated Car Care race in Pevely, Schrader was chosen to drive a special all-star car designated for the driver who represents the local track. Schrader, the longtime Federated spokesperson, has co-owned the Federated Auto Parts Raceway for almost 20 years.

A NASCAR veteran, Schrader joins previously announced full-time drivers Paul Tracy, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman, Marco Andretti, Michael Waltrip, Greg Biffle and Stewart in the July 16 SRX race.

      Leaders from the Auto Care Association recently visited Northwood University to meet with students enrolled in automotive aftermarket courses.
      Auto Care President and CEO Bill Hanvey was the guest lecturer for several Northwood University automotive aftermarket courses at its Midland, Michigan, campus, alongside several Auto Care Association team members.
      “One of the most fulfilling parts of my job is preparing the next generation of leadership for our industry,” said Hanvey. “Northwood University students are engaging, intelligent and care deeply about their career potential. The entire university staff is fully invested in their success and opportunities for industry leaders to share their experiences with the students are invaluable for the students and the executive as well. We are thrilled at the level of collaboration between Northwood and Auto Care to bring necessary training and education to the men and women both in the industry now, and those considering a career in the future.”
      Hanvey was joined by Ted Hughes, senior director, community engagement, Auto Care Association and executive director, Aftermarket Warehouse Distributors Association (AWDA); Amanda Bischoping, director, education, Auto Care Association; and Jonathan Larsen, vice president, standards and digital products, Auto Care Association. 
      The Auto Care Association team met with students enrolled in the following courses: 
      Aftermarket Manufacturing Management, which explores the role manufacturers play in the aftermarket and what business functions they employ; Category Management, which prepares students for the role of product manager through inventory modeling techniques and data analysis; and  Aftermarket management research, which teaches students research techniques to form a hypothesis and sample the data to reject or not reject the hypothesis. “Northwood University is beyond grateful for the Auto Care Association team,” stated Thomas Litzinger, executive director, University of the Aftermarket and Northwood University aftermarket industry chair. “We appreciate the team coming to campus and interacting with our students.       The Auto Care Association last week testified before the Idaho State Senate Commerce and Human Resources Committee in opposition to Senate Bill 1233, which would add language to an existing law that requires insurers to notify consumers in writing if they specific aftermarket parts for a collision repair.
      Currently, Section 41-1328B of the Idaho Code states, “It shall be an unfair claim settlement practice for an insurer to specify the use of nonoriginal equipment manufacturer aftermarket crash parts in the repair of an insured person’s motor vehicle, or for a repair facility or installer to use non-OEM aftermarket crash parts to repair a vehicle, if the consumer has not been advised in writing.”
      SB 1233 proposes to:
      Add headlamps, fenders, hoods, tail lamps and bumper components to the definition of aftermarket crash parts Add language to written disclosure statements telling consumers that non-OEM crash parts may affect safety and performance of a vehicle Recommend that consumers consult with a qualified industry expert or repair shop before making any decisions regarding the use of non-OEM crash parts Although SB 1233 was introduced in late January, it was swiftly advancing in the Idaho State Senate. Alongside Auto Care Association members, the association quickly took action to prevent the bill from becoming law, sending letters of opposition to the committee members highlighting its impact on aftermarket businesses in Idaho.
      “In Idaho specifically, our industry provides over 12,492 jobs, generates $1.6 billion in economic activity and provides $679 million in wages,” said Tod Moore, manager, grassroots and advocacy, Auto Care Association. “SB 1233 would have immediate, detrimental effects on this otherwise vibrant aftermarket ecosystem, not to mention the negative effect it will have on consumers.”
      During the hearing, the committee heard testimony from individuals both supporting and opposing the bill before ultimately voting to hold the bill in committee and thus preventing it from moving forward. Similar legislation also was recently defeated in Washington state.

      BendPak recently introduced its patent-pending Octa-Flex concept, a new two-post lift design that features two sets of arms: triple-telescoping swing arms plus all-new integrated lift-assist arms.
      Octa-Flex is the world’s first two-post lift series with eight fully adjustable, telescoping lift arms, according to the company.  
      The EV12DPS Octa-Flex prototype makes its global premiere in booth 4569W at NADA Expo in Las Vegas, Feb. 2-4.
      Octa-Flex offers all the functionality of a traditional two-post lift, while enabling technicians to perform tasks such as tackle cab-off repairs without the help of additional component-handling equipment or a second tech.
      While the primary lift arms hold the vehicle, the unique Octa-Flex lift-assist arms can be used to help safely and ergonomically lift and maneuver heavy vehicle components such as EV battery packs, drivetrains, tires and wheel assemblies with precision, ensuring seamless workflow while reducing the risk of workplace injuries, BendPak noted.  
      When they’re not needed, the powered lift-assist arms can be moved up out of the way, so the lift can be used as a standard two-post model. 
      “Octa-Flex lift-assist arms act like that second set of hands you wish you had when you need to remove a 1,200-pound EV battery or wrestle 100-pound wheels and tires off a truck,” said Jeff Kritzer, BendPak president and CEO. “Now you don’t have to ‘put your back into it’ or grab a buddy. Our Octa-Flex lifts will help technicians get more work done with less physical effort and strain.”
      link hidden, please login to view The three-stage arms extend and retract further than any other thanks to a patent-pending design that enables the inner arm tubes to retract fully through the back of the arm assembly and even beyond the arm pin itself, providing unfettered access to a wide range of vehicle lifting points, according to BendPak.
      Their lower profile and dropped-end pad receiver lets them access hard-to-reach lifting points with less chance of damage to vehicle side skirts, running boards or ground effects, even on low-slung sportscars or EVs.
      The Octa-Flex concept also features BendPak’s patent-pending Automatic Swing Arm Restraint System (ASARS) to keep the primary lift arms in place.
      ASARS provides twice as much holding grip as traditional systems, according to the company. Its 360 degrees of forged steel teeth secure the arms in place to withstand more than 2,000 pounds of side force that can be generated during vehicle service. The adaptive system requires minimal operator involvement to set and release, while providing maximum peace of mind.
      A Clear-Floor Design
      The Octa-Flex concept is a clear-floor design delivering unobstructed floor space for moving toolboxes, transmission jacks and other equipment under elevated vehicles. It is built to deliver long service life with single-piece columns for strength, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene load bearings that never need lubrication, super-tall lift carriages to minimize stress on components and industrial-grade hydraulic cylinders, according to the company.
      Designed for versatility, Octa-Flex Series lifts feature BendPak’s Bi-Metric reversible swing arms that enable the lift operator to set the lift in either symmetric or asymmetric configurations. 
      BendPak said it is committed to further enhancing the Octa-Flex concept in the coming months. Anticipated for fall 2024, the global launch will encompass models with rated capacities of both 10,000 and 12,000 pounds.
