The University of the Aftermarket Foundation (UAF) has awarded 378 scholarships to students throughout the country, totaling $640,250 for the upcoming school year.
A complete list of scholarship recipients can be found at
link hidden, please login to view. Those awarded with scholarships will be attending a two-year or four-year college or university or an accredited automotive vocational program.
While the majority of the students are studying to become mechanical, collision or heavy-duty repair professionals, others are pursuing degrees in such fields as business, engineering and IT/cybersecurity that will lead to a career in the automotive aftermarket. In addition, many named scholarships were awarded on behalf of a variety of individuals and organizations.
To be considered, scholarship candidates applied at the foundation’s AutomotiveScholarships.com or HeavyDutyScholarships.com websites. Once the teams of volunteer scholarship reviewers evaluated completed applications, recipients and their corresponding schools were notified of the awards.
“It’s wonderful to see so many students looking to the aftermarket as a career path and applying for scholarships to help get them there,” said Mike Buzzard, chairman of the UAF scholarship committee. “Awarding so many scholarships would not be possible without the generosity of those who donate their time and resources to UAF. Their support helps ensure that the aftermarket remains vibrant and strong through education.”

The AAM Group announced the recipients of the 2023 AAM Scholarship.
This educational aid program was established to support full-time employees (and their families) of AAM member warehouses in the pursuit of their educational goals at a two-year community college or technical school or a four-year college at the undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate level.
Each $1,000 scholarship is awarded for one year to a high school graduate in good scholastic standing.
A committee of independent, third-party evaluators selected the following recipients, who each demonstrated the diligence, rigor and academic achievement the award stands for.
Alyssa Gonnerman (Midwest Wheel Companies) – Graduated high school with a 3.924 GPA and plans to pursue a degree in biomedical sciences. Sadie Hudson (AllPro Distributing) – Graduated with a 3.7 GPA and intends to pursue a career in elementary education. Sophie Lamont (North Central Distributing) – Graduated high school with a 3.85 GPA and intends to study business in college. Paige Rice (Tri-State Enterprises) – Graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA and plans to pursue a bachelor of science in nursing. Application Details

In link hidden, please login to view, we gave leaders from the major distribution groups and trade associations an opportunity to reflect on the most critical issues affecting the automotive aftermarket. For the second year in a row, we let distribution leaders “riff” on these topics in their own words.
Here’s what Sue Godschalk, president of Federated Auto Parts, had to say about Federated’s accomplishments thus far in 2023.
Federated Auto Parts got off to an exciting start at the beginning of the year with the announcement of our newly formed joint venture with the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance. Both groups immediately set to work as The Federated Alliance by evaluating areas where the combined membership could benefit through the elimination of duplication in areas such as data management, communication, education and training, and other important initiatives.
In March, we were excited to have our new co-venturers join us for the annual Automotive Parts Services Group (The Group) membership meeting, along with our partners from The Pronto Network, for an exciting four days at the Gaylord National Harbor in Maryland just outside of the nation’s capital. Having The Federated Alliance members and The Pronto Network members in attendance, as well as representatives from our best APSG supplier partners, the meeting attendance was well over 1,000 and by far our largest meeting ever. The meeting theme of “E Pluribus Unum” (Latin for “out of many, one”) fit the location and best describes The Federated Alliance and The Pronto Network coming together with many new and exciting initiatives for the coming year.
On March 1, the Federated Auto Parts marketing team kicked off the Federated “Suite-Stakes” program, which has become an exciting annual program for our members and their service-provider customers. Suite-Stakes ran through June 30 and is always a fun way for Federated members to grow sales with existing customers and gain new business. In the past two years, Federated awarded more than 9,000 prizes, and this year is no different with a long prize list featuring new prizes, including sales team and member rewards and customer training events, such as a trip to Florida for a three-day hybrid/EV training workshop held at the new Group Training Academy Training & Research Center. With new automotive technologies and stricter regulations for environmental compliance on the horizon, education and training will continue to be a priority for Federated in the long term.
Another exciting addition to the Federated marketing program is our new sponsorship of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car racing series. The work area for each race is now known as the “Federated Car Care Work Zone” and receives a lot of visibility as the professional crew members work on the cars during the 87-race season that can be viewed on DIRTVision. This sponsorship ties in perfectly with the very popular “Get Dirty with Kenny” dirt-track racing experience we have conducted year after year for lucky Federated customers.
As the saying goes, one year equals 365 opportunities, and as new-vehicle sales continue to be low and the existing vehicle age high, I am optimistic that the second half of 2023 will be strong and full of opportunities for our industry and our membership.

In 1986, Counterman announced its first “Counterman of the Year.”
While the name has changed slightly, the intent of the Counter Professional of the Year hasn’t: The award recognizes America’s most trusted “go-to” men and women behind the parts counter.
“Believe it or not, the personnel working behind the counters in the nation’s auto parts stores have never been recognized on an industry-wide basis,” former Counterman Editor Larry Silvey wrote in the February 1986 issue.
That’s no longer the case, of course, as we’re in the 38th year of the Counter Professional of the Year. But we need your nominations to keep the program strong and vibrant.
If you’re chosen as the Counter Professional of the Year, you’ll receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas for AAPEX 2023, including a VIP experience at the Babcox Media/WIX Filters “Night of Excellence.” You’ll also be featured in the December 2023 issue of Counterman.
Nominating a counter pro (or yourself) is easy. Just visit
