“Tommy Boy,” starring David Spade and Chris Farley, is the ultimate movie about automotive parts. In fact, it might be the only movie in which auto parts play a fundamental role in the story.

While Tommy Callahan (Farley) and Richard Hayden (Spade) aren’t counter professionals, their cross-country journey in the 1995 film can serve as a valuable resource to anyone who sells auto parts for a living. These clips can teach you what to do – well, mostly what NOT to do – when trying to make a sale.

1. Don’t take “no” for an answer.

2. Guarantees are meaningless.

3. Relax – and be yourself.

4. Don’t try to be too clever.

5. Don’t set anything on fire.
