Counterman’s “
link hidden, please login to view” contest challenges our readers to solve an automotive riddle, for a chance to win $100. And each month, we receive hundreds of responses from aftermarket professionals trying to guess the model of the vehicle depicted. The correct answer for the June/July contest is the Ford Escape. The winner is Travis Cashman, parts manager at Glavan Ford of Clay Center in Clay Center, Kansas.
Now, let’s get to know the “Guess the Car” champion.
CM: How long have you been working in the auto parts business?
TC: Since October of last year.
CM: What were you doing before then?
TC: I was a welder.
CM: What do you like most about your job?
TC: I like interacting with people.
CM: What’s the strangest question a customer has asked you?
TC: That’s a tough one. We’ve had people ask for blinker fluid and muffler bearings, as a joke. But I’d have to think about this one.
CM: What’s the coolest car you’ve ever owned or worked on?
TC: Does it have to be street legal?
CM: Not necessarily.
TC: I had an ‘86 Monte Carlo SS dirt-track racer, street stock, had a 383 stroker and a three-speed transmission. Full-floater 9-inch rear end.
CM: Do you have any interesting hobbies? What do you do for fun?
TC: Ride my motorcycle, go hunting and fishing.
CM: What’s your dream car?
TC: A ‘63 corvette with a split window, four-speed transmission, and I know they didn’t make it in 1963, but it would be the 427 big block that came out in ’66. Hunter green with tan leather interior.

Federated Car Care will be the presenting sponsor of the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) race on July 16 at the Federated Auto Parts Raceway in Pevely, Missouri.
The race is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Central time and will be televised nationally on CBS-TV.
“We are excited for Federated Car Care to be a part of the SRX series, which has quickly become one of the most fun and popular racing series in the country,” said J.R. Bishop, motorsports and event marketing director for Federated Auto Parts. “We are also thrilled that Federated’s great friend, Kenny Schrader, will be one of the competitors. We know our members and Federated Car Care customers across the country will be cheering on Kenny.”
Announced in July 2020, the SRX series was founded by NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Tony Stewart, NASCAR Hall of Fame crew chief Ray Evernham, George Pyne and Sandy Montag. The series made its debut last summer and is presenting six races this summer, all airing nationally on CBS.
For the Federated Car Care race in Pevely, Schrader was chosen to drive a special all-star car designated for the driver who represents the local track. Schrader, the longtime Federated spokesperson, has co-owned the Federated Auto Parts Raceway for almost 20 years.
A NASCAR veteran, Schrader joins previously announced full-time drivers Paul Tracy, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman, Marco Andretti, Michael Waltrip, Greg Biffle and Stewart in the July 16 SRX race.

And each month, we receive hundreds of responses from aftermarket professionals trying to guess the model of the vehicle depicted. The correct answer for the April/May contest is the Corvette Stingray. The winner is Dana Woollen, store manager at A Street Auto Parts in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Now, let’s get to know the “Guess the Car” champion.
CM: How long have you been working in the auto parts business?
DW: Off and on for probably 18 years. I’ve always been with NAPA Auto Parts, but at different locations.
CM: What do you like most about your job?
DW: The people. I’m a people person, so I like the camaraderie with my co-workers and the relationships that you form with the customers.
CM: What’s the strangest question a customer has asked you?
DW: Well, I asked a customer how many lug holes a rotor had, and he asked me what I meant by that.
CM: What’s the coolest car you’ve ever owned or worked on?
DW: I helped a buddy with his 2019 Chevy Corvette. That’s a pretty fun car.
CM: Did you get to drive it?
DW: Oh yeah. Absolutely.
CM: Do you have any interesting hobbies? What do you do for fun?
DW: I’m a musician on the side. I play the bass guitar, and I sing in a couple bands.
CM: What’s your dream car?
DW: When I was a kid I had a poster on my wall of a 959 Porsche cabriolet. I’d say that’s as good a dream car as any.
